1. Who we are
Poe AI operates the website at poe-chat.com and the companion chat experience available through it. Where this policy says “we” or “us”, it means Poe AI.
2. Scope of this policy
This policy explains what information Poe AI collects, why it is collected, how long it is kept and what you can ask us to do with it.
3. Acceptance
By using Poe AI you confirm that you have read this policy and accept the practices described in it. If you do not accept them, please stop using the service.
4. Age requirement
Poe AI is intended solely for adults aged 18 or over. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under that age and will delete such information if we discover it.
5. Account information
When you create an account with Poe AI we collect the email address you supply, a hashed password and the display name you choose.
6. Conversation content
Messages exchanged with a Poe AI companion are stored so that your companion can remember context between sessions. They are linked to your account, not published.
7. Technical information
We record standard technical data such as browser type, operating system, approximate region derived from IP address, and timestamps of visits.
8. Device identifiers
Poe AI may record a non-permanent device identifier so that your session survives a page refresh and so we can detect abusive automated traffic.
9. Payment information
If you purchase anything, payment card details are handled by our payment processor. Poe AI never receives or stores your full card number.
10. Cookies
Poe AI uses cookies that keep you signed in, remember your interface preferences and measure aggregate traffic. You may block cookies in your browser, though parts of the site may then stop working.
11. Analytics
We use aggregated analytics to understand which pages are used and where people get stuck. Analytics reports do not contain the content of your conversations.
12. Legal bases
We process personal data to perform our contract with you, to comply with legal obligations, on the basis of your consent where required, and on the basis of our legitimate interest in operating a secure service.
13. Purpose limitation
Information collected by Poe AI is used only for the purposes described in this policy, and not for unrelated purposes without telling you first.
14. No sale of personal data
Poe AI does not sell, rent or trade personal data or conversation content to third parties.
15. Service providers
We share limited data with providers who host our infrastructure, deliver email, process payments and prevent fraud. They act on our instructions and are bound by confidentiality.
16. International transfers
Data may be processed in countries other than your own. Where that happens we rely on recognised safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.
17. Data retention
Account data is retained while your account is active. Conversation history is retained until you delete it or close your account, after which it is removed within thirty days from live systems.
18. Backups
Copies of data may persist in encrypted backups for a limited period after deletion, and are overwritten in the ordinary backup cycle.
19. Security measures
Poe AI uses encryption in transit, access controls, isolated environments and routine review of administrative access.
20. Breach notification
If a breach occurs that is likely to affect your rights, we will notify affected users and the relevant supervisory authority without undue delay.
21. Your right of access
You may ask Poe AI for a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
22. Your right to correction
If information we hold about you is inaccurate, you may ask us to correct it.
23. Your right to erasure
You may ask Poe AI to delete your account and associated conversation history.
24. Your right to object and restrict
You may object to certain processing or ask us to restrict it while a dispute is resolved.
25. Your right to portability
You may request an export of the data you provided to Poe AI in a structured, machine-readable format.
26. Withdrawing consent
Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw it at any time without affecting processing already carried out.
27. Marketing preferences
Promotional email from Poe AI is optional. Every message contains an unsubscribe link, and service notices will still be sent.
28. Automated decisions
Poe AI does not make decisions with legal or similarly significant effects about you by purely automated means.
29. Third-party links
Pages on Poe AI may link to external sites. We are not responsible for their content or their privacy practices.
30. Fictional characters
All companions on Poe AI are fictional and their images are generated. They do not represent, and are not derived from, identifiable real individuals.
31. Complaints
If you believe your data has been mishandled you may complain to us first, and to your local data protection authority if you remain dissatisfied.
32. Changes to this policy
Poe AI may update this policy. Material changes will be announced on this page and, where appropriate, by email.
